Electrostatic spraying debunked

Have you been told you need electrostatic spraying? Electrostatic sprayers are expensive and in short supply. The only reason you need an electrostatic sprayer for disinfecting, including killing Covid-19, is because the chemical going into the sprayer needs it to improve the electric charge. However, if you use a chemical that does not need the electric charge, then you don’t need expensive sprayers as part of your service.

Electrostatic disinfection is a process whereby surfaces are disinfected with electrically charged particles for even, complete disinfecting coverage. The electrostatic applicator gives a negative charge to the disinfecting solution as it exits the nozzle.

We’re recommending a solution that is 2.5 stronger than similar products, and does not require an electrostatic sprayer. It has five electrons soaring around its molecule – a uniquely high number. This makes it one of the strongest pound-for-pound oxidizers on the market. Other products aren’t as selective when it comes to how they react with the pathogen they are trying to destroy.

It’s a myth that electrostatic spraying destroys Covid for any number of hours. Electrostatic disinfection does not create a protective barrier, rather it lasts until the surface is touched again. For example, it will kill any pathogens on the surface when you initially spray, and that lasts until it is next touched, when it will need to be disinfected again.

The bottom line? Our favorite Covid-19 Coronavirus and overall biocide killer is 2.5 times stronger, safer, and more effective than other products on the market.

VitalOxide Covid killer disinfectant review

VitalOxide is a ready to use product on the EPA List N: Disinfectants for Use Against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). There are wide variations in Covid killing products and this product review highlights some items procurement and supply chain staff need to know to make purchasing decisions.

What is the efficacy of VitalOxide?

VitalOxide delivers ready to use (RTU) as a full-strength EPA hospital disinfectant for hard non-porous surfaces, with a Covid kill rate of 10 minutes. As with all EPA disinfectants to kill Covid-19, with the exception of laundry products, it’s approved for hard non-porous surfaces only. It kills bacteria in 60 seconds. Applications include spray, sponge, mop, or by immersion in solution. Allow surfaces to remain wet for 5 minutes or 10 minutes for virus inactivation (refer to the viruses table for contact times) 10 minutes for bacteria disinfection. No re-entry for minimum 20 minutes for fogging or misting. It can be diluted per instructions.

What are the primary ingredients of Vital Oxide?

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS:
Chlorine Dioxide……………0.200%
Alkyl (60% C14, 30% C16, 5% C12, 5% C18) dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride…………………………0.125%
Alkyl (68% C12, 32% C14) dimethyl ethylbenzyl ammonium chloride…………………………0.125%

Because it contains quaternary ammoniums (quats for short), their use on contact areas is of concern to some, especially because of the overall increased exposure from sanitizers, cleaning agents, shampoos and more during the current pandemic. Quats linger on surfaces long after being cleaned, and if people or pets react like mice (unknown), repeated contact may have potential for side effects. We just don’t know because few studies have been done.

On quaternary ammoniums, “I’m definitely very concerned,” says Libin Xu, a biochemist at the University of Washington. The public, he adds, may know that quats kill bacteria and viruses. But through his research, Xu has found that quats can also disrupt key cellular pathways.

What is the method of delivery of disinfectant? VitalOxide recommends an electrostatic sprayer for fogging or use manual hand spray. No personal protection equipment needed is needed to apply.

What does it clean?

According to the label, VitalOxide is a 7 in one solution EPA registered hospital disinfectant and is a 100% biodegradeable surficant. NSF-registered “no rinse on food-contact surfaces” sanitizer; Certified by the Carpet & Rug Institute for pet stains and odor; Effective disinfectant that kills 99.999% of bacteria and viruses, including H1N1; MRSA; Norovirus; HIV; Legionella; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Hepatitis A, B, and C; Ebola virus; and others; kills molds.

Homes, vehicles, schools, daycare, gyms, locker rooms, sports gear, hospitals, nursing homes, laundry rooms, veterinary, ambulances,
laboratories, restaurants, boats, ships, federally inspected meat & poultry processing plants, farms, animal pens and poultry houses, egg processing premises, hatcheries, swine premise sanitation, refrigerated storage units, HVAC and AC systems, airplanes, trains, trucks, buses & automobiles. Use as a mold inhibitor on hard non-porous surfaces and soft surfaces, botanical facilities, commercial greenhouses customer/public areas, floral shops, garden centers, horticultural facilities, plant growing chambers, plant growing facilities, plant growing rooms, plant holding areas, greenhouse equipment, greenhouse films, plant display racks, plant grow shelves.

How much does it cost? MSRP $37.95 for one gallon.

Is it eco-friendly?

In my opinion RTU disinfectants are inherently environmentally unfriendly. They’re heavy, adding to shipping impact, the containers are made from fossil fuels, and if containers not recycled, it’s a lot of landfill space. The label says it contains no CFC’s, however, CFCs have been banned since 1996. Quats are an unknown risk to humans, pets and our food supply. The container can be recycled but it cannot be reused at the same dilution as when it was delivered.

ESG Safe Analysis :

Avoid using products with Quaternary ammonium as the primary active ingredient at home and work. We do not recommend any product, including Vital Oxide, that uses Quats.
